Recently we changed the navigation of the eCoach Learning Experience for participants. We realise that this was a significant change to the original "Grid" style seen below.

(Note the Grid System can still be accessed via the settings panel).

What changed?

Overall we have received very positive feedback around the new navigation. However like all change there can be an adjustment period for all users. So in this article, we will go through the major changes and why we thought this would positively impact on the learner experience in eCoach.

Top major changes and the reasons why we changed the navigation:

  • Defining a clear learning pathway: the new navigation menu gives participants a clearly defined learning pathway, allowing them to at a glance, see how far through a Course, Lesson, or Quiz they are while learning.
  • Removing unnecessary steps: jumping from one module to another module used to be a hassle. If a participant was completing an assignment and wanted to quickly review some content from a previous lesson they would have to navigate through numerous steps; home  > lesson > tiles > home > assignment. The new navigation menu cuts out most of these steps providing a better user experience for the participant.
  • This is the way it should have been to start with: eCoach used to be a product that was solely devoted to lesson creation. Course, Quizzes, Assignments, and all of the LMS features we have today were built around our amazing lesson creation tools. Because of this, we had to make some compromises and all of the different modules that participants used previously lived in different parts of the codebase. We've now finally had the time to fully unify all of these different parts and because of this, eCoach is much more robust and flexible product.

Ongoing Refinement

We truly value feedback on the product as we continually strive to improve the user and learner experience across the product.

We hope your participants love the new design!
