Training Staff Using eCoach
Training staff online can seem like a daunting task for managers with no e-Learning experience. The technical jargon and perceived IT requirements around e-Learning are intimidating, meaning that many businesses choose to stick to traditional training methods instead. The truth is that moving staff training online can be much easier than one might think. Here’s a short guide to help you get started:
What is e-Learning?
e-Learning is learning delivered in an online setting. When it comes to staff training, e-Learning refers to any training conducted online - this training can be completed on a computer at work, or remotely, from home. e-Learning is increasingly shifting to mobile devices, meaning there’s an opportunity to train staff on the go, as they commute to and from work or meetings.
Why should I train my staff online?
The statistics are compelling. e-Learning typically requires 40-60% less employee time than learning the same material in a traditional setting, retention rates increase by 25-60%, and participants learn nearly 5 times more material without an increase in training time. 42% of companies say e-Learning has led to an increase in revenue.
How to start training
Training staff online doesn’t require hiring IT professionals or rolling out vast and complex online training systems. Create a Lesson, Quiz or Course in your free eCoach Author account and you can share it in minutes. Just click on the ‘Share’ button at the top of your dashboard and activate the content you’d like to share. You’ll then be able to click on ‘Get Link’, which will give you a URL link to share with staff.
If you need ideas for what sort of training you can begin to roll out using eCoach, try clicking the ‘Explore’ button at the top of your dashboard and exploring some of our existing content. These Courses cover both administrative training, such as workplace health and safety, and customer service guidelines, and more detailed training, such as food safety and hygiene, and manual handling.
Remember that with the free eCoach Author account, you can only share one piece of training at a time. If you begin to get comfortable with training staff online, consider upgrading to a paid eCoach account, where you can start sharing multiple pieces of staff training at once, as well as accessing information on which staff have completed which pieces of training and how well they performed.
