Images are key to creating polished, engaging eLearning content. The combination of images and text forms the cornerstone of effective eLearning, especially when done right. Check out our blog for some tips on how to best put words and visuals together to make great Courses.

Images can be uploaded using the ‘Add Image’ button, which will appear on templates that require or offer the use of an image. For information on how to use the ‘Add Image’ button, click here. You can also upload images straight to your WYSIWYG text editor – for information on how to do that, click here.

Different templates require different images and image sizes. Here’s a list of the different templates that rely on images and what size we recommend you make your images in each one:

Slideshow:

We suggest keeping your Slideshow images full size, meaning 1170 x 550 pixels. If you upload multiple images, make sure you keep them all at the same height so as to avoid having the screen jump around when moving through each image.

 Word Circle:

The image in the Word Circle Template is kept at the centre of the template and always made circular. Make sure you keep this in mind when choosing square or rectangular images, as their corners will be cropped. We recommend choosing an image that is 450 x 450 pixels in size.

Hotspot:

We suggest keeping your Hotspot images full size at 1170 x 550 pixels.

Springy-List:

For this template, we suggest keeping images full size at 1170 x 550 pixels. Make sure you’re aware where the content tips and buttons will sit when selecting and cropping your image.

Steps:

Our suggestions for image size in the Steps Template depend on whether you’d like your image to be displayed alongside your text, or whether you’d like a background image behind your text. when displaying images alongside text, we recommend using images sized at 400 x 550 pixels. If you chose a full background image, we recommend selecting an image that is 1170 x 550 pixels in size.

Image Click and Image+:

Choosing image sizes for the Image Click and Image+ Template depends on whether you’d like to display your images in one or two rows.

For one row:

  • 2 images; 389 x 300 pixels each
  • 3 images; 390 x 275 pixels each
  • 4 images; 293 x 275 pixels each

When using over 4 images, we recommend switching to two rows.

For two rows:

  • 4 images (this is the minimum) should be 585 x 275 pixels each
  • 5 images; 3 images at the top with a size of 390 x 275 pixels, 2 images below at a size of 585 x 275 pixels
  • 6 images; keep them all at 390 x 275 pixels
  • 7 images; 4 images at the top with a size of 293 x 275 pixels, 3 images below at a size of 390 x 275 pixels
  • 8 images; keep them all to 293 x 275 pixels
  • 9 images; 5 images at the top with a size of 234 x 275 pixels, 4 images below at a size of 293 x 275 pixels
  • 10 images; 6 images at the top with a size of 195 x 275 pixels, 4 images below with a size of 293 x 275 pixels

We recommend using the Image Click Template for conveying larger amounts of text, and the Image+ Template for smaller chunks of information.

Text Pop:

We suggest trying an image of around 300 x 200 pixels in size. However, you can make your image any height you choose in order to conform with your subject matter. If you add more items, you’ll need to make your images smaller to fit on the screen.

Flowchart:

For the Flowchart Template, your images are dependant on your content, meaning that you may have to play around with your image sizes to see what works the best. We recommend starting with an image size of 280 x 280 pixels and adjusting from there.

Icon Hover:

The Icon Hover Template will also display a maximum of 4 images in a row. Whilst your image size is dependant on your content matter, we recommend beginning with images that are 210 x 150 pixels in size.

Drop Tab:

Choosing your image sizes for the Drop Tab Template depends on how many images you’d like to display. For 2 images, try sizes of 280 x 200 pixels. For 3, try 260 x 190 pixels. For 4, try 220 x 150 pixels. For 5, try 180 x 120 pixels. For 6, try 165 x 112 pixels.

Side Slide:

Remember that the Side Slide Template will always display a maximum of 3 images in a row. It will also crop their corners, so watch out when choosing square images. We recommend a size of 250 x 250 pixels.

Mini-Site:

Remember that the Mini-Site Template will display a maximum of 4 images in a row. For this reason, we recommend choosing images that are 250 x 200 pixels in size.

Timeline:

Images with a low height work best on this template. We recommend sizes of 460 x 200 pixels. Keep in mind that not every item needs an accompanying image – some of the best Timeline Templates use images sparingly.

Drag and Drop:

Try not to make your images too large in the Drag and Drop Template, as they won’t work too well on small screens. For 3 images, we recommend using sizes of 250 x 270 pixels. For 4, try 220 x 240. For 5, try 200 x 220 pixels. For 6, try 160 x 180 pixels. For 7, try 220 x 180 pixels. For 8, try 220 x 180 pixels. For 9, try 170 x 180 pixels. For 10, try 170 x 180 pixels.

Spot the Mistakes:

We suggest using a full sized image for this template. Try a size of 1170 x 550 pixels. You can use multiple images if you’d like, but make sure they stay at a height of 550 pixels and add up to a width of 1170 pixels.

Correct Image:

Keep in mind that you can only put 2 images side by side in this template. As such, we recommend keeping images to 350 x 400 pixels in size.

Form Challenge:

The image you choose for this template will sit above the ‘Done’ button. Images are not really necessary with this template, though we do recommend adding an image if you choose to upload audio, so that your Participants can click on the image in order to hear the audio. In this case, an image sized at 260 x 320 pixels will work well.
